5 Seconds of Summer had a big night Sunday at the American Music Awards where they performed their sick cover of What I Like About You and won their very first AMA for New Artist of the Year.

These Aussies hit the ultimate high yesterday when they got to reunite with their pals from One Direction and more. Check out the adorable Instagram video Niall Horan posted with the Australian guys prior to the award show kicking off below. It's clear they have a great friendship.

Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Michael Clifford and Ashton Irwin took the stage during the show to perform their cover of What I Like About You, which many believed to be pretty flawless. P.S. the live version of What I Like About You is one of the songs featured on their LIVESOS album. 5SOS Announces Their 'First Ever Live Album'

The reactions from other acts in the music industry, fans and non-fans of the guys to their performance were mixed. Some realized how it's pretty obvious they know how to own a stage since they've toured with 1D countless times all around the world while others were not impressed at all. Ryan Cabrera absolutely loved the guys' performance. He praised them when he tweeted about them having so much energy. Check out his complete tweet below.

AJR had some mixed views. The trio of brothers wished 5SOS would have performed an original song, but still thought they did great. Check out those tweets below.


Things even got a bit silly on Twitter since the trend "#whatIlikeaboutnipples" happened since during 5SOS' performance Hood had a nip slip. AJR was right on board for that trend as seen below.

Hood even took part in the trend about himself. He tweeted he had fun while on stage. See his tweet below.

Then, brothers, Keaton and Wesley Stromberg of Emblem3 were so pumped from 5SOS' epic performance they accidently congratulated them on their VMA performance and win. The love is still there though between them!

Then things happened to get a little shaky when Perez Hilton compared 5 Seconds of Summer to One Direction. He praised the Aussies for moving around on stage unlike their friends in 1D.


Cosmopolitan didn't have anything nice to say about the Australian band, which led to their fans profusely defending them. Other fans meanwhile were just overjoyed from their performance. One of our favorite tweets from a 5SOS fan is below.

Another great reaction was from @_5SOSFAMUPDATES, which included them saying the performance was "freaking amazing" and used a guitar emoji!

Plus, the Aussies went on to win the award they were nominated for; New Artist of the Year, which is something they're certainly proud of. During their acceptance speech, Clifford told Bastille they're awesome (they were a nomination in this category too). Irwin said, "This really shows that a little band from Sydney can do great things." Watch their entire acceptance speech below.
