Fans of FOX's Red Band Society may need to be concerned about the fate of the freshman drama series.

Hunter 'Grounds' Kara Before Exploring Romance With Her?

The network has released its Spring TV schedule-and so far, the new series about a group of kids fighting life-threatening conditions at an L.A. hospital doesn't appear to be on it.

According to Spoiler TV, the show will be replaced in its Wednesdays at 9 p.m. timeslot starting January 7, when American Idol XIV comes back, bringing with it the premiere of a new series at 9:00, called Empire. And though no other Wednesday changes have been announced by the network just yet, the fact that Red Band Society is no longer on the schedule does not bode well for the series, which has had lower live ratings, but higher numbers after DVR viewings are factored in later.

Is 'Red Band Society' Certain To Be Cancelled?

However, Fox may not be pulling the plug on the series just yet, as Empire follows the story of a family that appears to be hip hop royalty-which would be a good fit to go after Idol, FOX's singing competition which is going into its 14th season, before that switches to its Thursday slot. Fox could be waiting on a decision about Red Band Society because they may want to see how Empire could fair on its own and if it would bring in higher ratings for the network.

For now, the show appears to still be in production, as the official Twitter account remains active and hasn't made any announcements concerning the show's status. In addition, members of the cast have even appeared to potentially tweet some spoilers for upcoming episodes (if they air).

Dave Annable, who portrays Dr. McAndrew, tweeted a photo of himself and Mandy Moore (who portrays Chief of Surgery Dr. Erin Grace on the show) as they stand in front of the fictional hospital's chapel-hinting that the characters could rekindle their romance.

"Wait. What? #DrGrace #DrMcAndrew," he captioned the photo.

Red Band Society airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on FOX.
