It's a sad Thanksgiving for fans of FOX's new medical drama series Red Band Society, as word has officially come out that the network will not be picking the series up beyond its initial thirteen-episode order.

'Red Band Society' Left Off Of Fox's Spring Schedule

According to TV Line, Fox has decided not to pick up additional episodes and production will wrap up on the series next month after the completion of episode 13.

One more episode will air of the series (it's tenth) on Dec. 3, but following that it will officially be pulled from Fox's schedule with the remaining three episodes set to premiere at a currently unscheduled later date.

'Red Band Society' Certain To Be Cancelled?

A network insider reportedly told the website that the show could potentially receive a second season, but it is highly unlikely at this point, as the show has struggled in the ratings. It opened September 17 with 4.1 million total viewers and a 1. 3 demo rating, with its eighth episode only drawing in three million viewers and a 0.9 rating.

The show, which followed the lives of several pediatric and teen patients in an L.A. hospital, as well as the lives of their doctors and nurses. The ailments the teens faced varied-two were trying to beat cancer, one had cystic fibrosis, one had a heart condition, one was in a coma, and another suffered from an eating disorder.

The show also faced some stiff competition in its Wednesdays at 9 p.m. timeslot. Fellow networks ABC, CBS and NBC aired shows which generate huge ratings at the same time, including Modern Family and Survivor.

It is unclear if other networks or services will consider picking the show, which starred Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, up for a new season.
