Details have been released on the upcoming Christmas special of Downton Abbey- be warned, there are major spoilers ahead for everyone in America who has yet to see what took place in Season 5.

Thomas Will Have A 'Harrowing Storyline' On 'Downton Abbey'

On Wednesday, Carter Matt posted the synopsis of what will happen in the holiday special that will take place in the fall of 1924. Lord Sinderby, the father-in-law of Rose, rents out Brancaster Castle in Northumberland and invited the Crawley family to a shooting party.

While everyone seems to bask pretty well and have fun, Stowell has something up his sleeve that could let out a scandalous secret. Odds are likely that this will be a pretty big secret since it could damage the party.

Are Anna & Mr. Bates Going To Wind Up In Prison On 'Downton Abbey?'

As the families get to know each other better, it appears that they'll discover some surprises while new characters join.

Meanwhile, Anna is locked away in jail for her accused murder of her rapist. Mr. Bates is going to go out of his way to clear her name, giving some mystery on how exactly he plans to do this. Perhaps, he might take the fall for her, but would that mean he's guilty for killing Mr. Green? Or is he just saying that to save Anna?

Baxter and Molesley are working on a joint plan while Carson and Mrs. Hughes will consider a business venture. This also remains coy since there's no word on how this venture will turn out.

Downton Abbey Season 5 will air in the United States on Sunday, January 4 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
