Monday the Daily Mail reported via South African weekly publication, YOU, that Pistorius' older brother Carl shared some insight into Pistorius' prison life so far.

Carl shared that his younger brother is not receiving special treatment such as getting his own private bathroom. He said Pistorius has been given a stool to sit on in a communal shower room though.

Carl also revealed that his sister Aimee coordinates all of Pistorius' 45-minute visits, which happen only once a week.

Pistorius told Carl and Aimee at a recent visit of theirs about his idea for an initiative to involve some of his 7,000 fellow inmates in playing basketball. Carl said, "He asked family members to donate balls, rather than buy him gifts for his birthday. He is still waiting for permission from the area commissioner of correctional services to start it."

The Daily Mail further reported that Pistorius told his brother that it's "insightful and stimulating" to hear how other prisoners have turned their lives around since jail since he had to complete a "New Beginnings" course as part of his rehabilitation program that prison authorities set up for him.

Carl added, "He's encountering many beautiful stories from prisoners. There are people there who have committed crimes but whose lives have changed."

Carl also said that Pistorius is living "moment by moment" now.
