Benedict Cumberbatch is not looking to quit BBC's Sherlock anytime soon, despite becoming a breakout star at the movies.

Cumberbatch spoke about the series, in which he plays the titular Sherlock Holmes, in Vogue recently. The actor admitted that he is not tiring of playing the inquisitive character.

"If we can keep the quality up, I can't imagine that I will ever get tired of being Sherlock," Cumberbatch admitted. "I'd love to play him as an old man."

Sherlock executive producer Steven Moffat added that during the casting process, BBC didn't think he was "sexy" enough to play the character.

"The BBC liked the choice, too, but with one proviso," Moffat remembered. "They said, 'Is he sexy enough? You promised us a sexy Sherlock.' Back then nobody thought of him as sexy-not even Benedict. Who knew that he'd wind up being a sex symbol in China?"

Now, Cumberbatch has gone on to star in huge films like Star Trek Into Darkness while also acting in critical darlings like 12 Years a Slave and starring in this year's The Imitation Game, which is giving him awards traction.

"People kept saying he was the Next Big Thing," Moffat said, "and I think Benedict was getting impatient for that moment to actually happen."

For now, Cumberbatch is set to film the Sherlock Christmas special scheduled to air in late 2015, with the fourth season expected to begin airing in early 2016.
