HBO's True Detective didn't earn a Best TV Series nod in the drama category at the Golden Globes this year, but it did manage to land one in Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made For Television.

'True Detective' Lands '80s Music Star

It seems that the popular crime drama was nominated as a limited series, likely due to the changing cast and story for each season. On Thursday Rolling Stone announced the nominees, with True Detective earning a space in four categories.

In addition to being nominated under Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made For Television, the show is up for Best Supporting Actress In A Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture for Television for Michelle Monaghan. Both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are up for Best Actor In A Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

Unlike at the Emmys, where McConaughey and Harrelson were nominated and lost out for Best Actor In A Television Series (Drama), they are up against a different group of contenders at the Golden Globes. This could, in theory, give each of them a better chance at winning.

Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch are set to star in the show's new season, for which production has already begun. The story with follow a collection of detectives and criminals after a California city manager is murdered.

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
