Gracepoint ended its first season by putting Joe Miller behind bars, leaving the accidental murderer still roaming free.

Detective Miller (Anna Gunn) chose to protect her son in the final moments of episode 10 and the fallout from that decision could be further explored in season 2. While Fox has not announced if Gracepoint will return for a sophomore run, Emmitt Carver's (David Tennant) closing look of steely determination optimistically left the door ajar.

Unfortunately, fans may not get to see that storyline play out.

"It was not meant to be self-contained and we have a lot of ideas and a lot of excitement about where it could go," said showrunner Anya Epstein, according to Zap2It. "It remains to be seen whether we'll get a chance to actually do that. It doesn't seem terribly likely at the moment."

If Fox does not choose to renew the British import, any fans Gracepoint gains stateside will have to erase the finale from their mind and pickup with season of ITV's Broadchurch if they want to continue the tale of Carver and Miller. With different names and a slightly different plot, Broadchurch will enter season 2 after pinning Danny's death squarely on Joe Miller Josh Hamilton). Young Tom Miller Jack Irvine) was in no way involved.
