Mad Men hasn't even aired its final episode on AMC yet and already star Jon Hamm considers himself old news.

Find Out Why 'Mad Men' Creator Is Not Having A Good Month

"Ask anyone under the age of twenty if they have heard of me and they will go 'no, that guy looks like my dad'," declared the 43-year-old actor in an interview with Radio Times on Friday.

Hamm has indeed charmed audiences over the last decade as troubled ad-man Don Draper on the hit AMC drama, but according to the actor his fame hasn't really extended to the younger generation.

"It doesn't compute to the generation that most of Hollywood cares about," explained Hamm of his own status within the industry. "If your last name's not Hemsworth or you are not in One Direction or you don't wear a cape and tights for a living, you literally have a hard time making an impression."

'Mad Men' Series Finale Spoilers

It might be hard for some audiences to believe that the Mad Men star hasn't made an impression, particularly with his good looks and crossover appeal for both comedy and drama. Then there's the fact that he is the lead on a television series which has been credited with changing the landscape of cable programming.

Hamm even had the opportunity to aim for that younger generation, noting that he had "been in contention for quite of few of those" superhero roles in big blockbuster films.

So why has it taken so long for Hamm to put on a cape? Is the star headed for a franchise? The answer to those questions is no, but the actor insists that he has no regrets having turned down leading roles in superhero films.

"For me to sign on now to do a superhero movie would mean I would be working until I am fifty as that particular superhero," he explained, adding that he didn't want to just keep on doing the same thing over and over for the remainder of his career.

There was also another aspect of the whole blockbuster scene which the actor admittedly found "terrifying": social media.

"It's partly why I don't have any presence on social networking," he explained. "Being an actor in the public eye and a quasi-celebrity is weird enough without giving everything up to everyone else."

While Hamm might consider himself out-of-date with the younger crowd, the over 21 fans are still enamored with the Mad Man landscape, even if it's on a sub-conscious level.

On Saturday The Guardian reported that the return of old fashioned drinks like Bourbon and the Manhattan amount younger consumers could have a direct correlation to the popularity of shows like Mad Men which indulge in that sort of iconic, idealized lifestyle.

Mad Men returns on AMC for the remainder of its seventh and final season in the spring of 2015.
