Dancing With the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy recently spoke out about his disappointment over not winning this latest season as well as some misconceptions about "showmances."

When it was announced that Chmerkovskiy and his partner Janel Parrish came in third place during the most recent DWTS finale, the pro could not hide his disappointment. The dancer recently addressed this with Glamour and talked about how he felt after the news hit him.

"At that point, it really doesn't matter because that's really not the hard part," he explained. "You kind of want to crawl up in a ball in a way because the last thing you want to do is be on a plane with the Mirrorball, but I'll just leave it at that. Just in terms of the disappointment, the show is amazing, but it's really unnatural because it can be really cruel the way it is. It's cruel to us as dancers because it puts us in this position where we become everything to this person, and then it's like, it's over and we're expected to move on and then next season do it with somebody else."

He added that the "showmance" angle that often gets brought into his chemistry with his celebrity partners is "so frustrating," because people don't understand his approach.

"I love every single partner I've had because I'm passionate about what I'm doing, and I care about who it is that I'm sharing this experience with. The celebs are going on this journey, which is like Mount Everest. It's a high-pressure situation every week. And then overnight, it's over.

"I feel like the entire season people have missed the plot a little bit, and I feel like in that one moment that was the first time people realized, 'Oh s---, these people really cared about what they were doing.' This wasn't just for show."

Chmerkovskiy said that he was "obviously disappointed" over coming in third, though he clarified that that didn't mean he wasn't happy for Alfonso Ribeiro, the winner of the season. He noted that many of the celebrities brought something special to the show, including Parrish, Ribeiro, Sadie Robertson, Bethany Mota and Lea Thompson.

The dancer will likely be back for season 20 in the spring, though it remains to be seen if new rumors will spring up about a romance between him and whomever he is with.

Dancing With the Stars returns for season 20 in March on ABC, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date.
