The seventh and final season of Sons of Anarchy is the most watched season of a TV show in FX history, according to TVGuide.com. The final season scored an impressive 7.54 million viewers on average for each episode.

"It's a rare and remarkable accomplishment for a television show to generate its - and our channel's - highest ratings in its final season," John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions, said in a statement. "We thank Kurt Sutter and his team for an epic ride."

The show previously held the record for its sixth season, which averaged 6.98 million viewers per episode.

It was also announced that the series finale that aired on Dec. 9 scored the highest ratings for an SOA episode in total viewers, adults, men and women 25-54, women 18-49 and adults and men 18-34.

The finale was reportedly viewed by 9.26 million viewers when including Live+3 viewership. This is the second-highest telecast in FX history, with the premiere of American Horror Story: Freak Show holding the record at 10 million.

Sons of Anarchy was always a popular show but it speaks volumes that the show continued to grow in viewers every season. This may be due to the show's inclusion on Netflix streaming, which probably helped other shows like AMC's Breaking Bad conclude with its highest ratings ever as more and more people got caught up.
