Longtime Young and the Restless actress Melody Thomas Scott revealed a recent health issue via Twitter this week.

The 58-year-old returned to work after six weeks of suffering from a "serious reaction" to medication she was prescribed to cure a sinus infection.

"Am thankful that I have gained enough strength 2 B back at work.The recovery has been slow, but improving. Not a secret," tweeted the actress who has played Nikki Newman on the soap opera since 1981. "I'm actually looking 4 more ppl who have suffered w/ this same reaction. These meds should not B available to public. Very serious side effects."

She added, "God willing, I will be able to describe my agonies and slow recovery to all of you tomorrow. Thank you 4 your patience. Miss u all. xo."

This doesn't mean that Scott's character won't appear in the upcoming holiday episodes, according to Soap Opera Digest. She also has a "big storyline" airing in 2015.

"A part of when Melody was sick was over Thanksgiving and scenes were rescheduled as needed," a source told the website. "She was sick when they were taping Christmas and New Year's but Nikki is still included in both holidays on air."
