Actor Says Everyone Will Have 'Intense Storylines' On 'Downton Abbey'

On Tuesday, Fox News posted the details on the storylines, one of them being Edith having a child named Marigold and giving her to someone else. It might seem like Edith could keep this daughter a secret, but she's not going to just give her up just like that.

"She's trying to find a way to be a part of Marigold's life while keeping it from her family," actress Laura Carmichael said about her character. "If they find out, it would be shocking and shameful."

Is There Going To Be A 'Downton Abbey' Movie?

"[Society] could turn a blind eye to a widow having an affair," series creator Julian Fellowes added. "But it wouldn't forgive a young woman who got pregnant by a man who couldn't marry her."

There is also the matter of Tom Branson, played by Allen Leech, who gave the impression that he may not be on the show for that much longer.

"Tom is trying to find his place in the world," the actor said who added that his socialist friend Sarah Bunting is helping out with this. "The difficult question for Tom is, to be his own man, will he have to leave Downton?"

Downton Abbey Season 5 will premiere in the United States this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
