A sneak peek of Downton Abbey Season 5 has been released that shows a connection between some of the characters as they continue with their intriguing lives.

Lady Violet and Isobel are going for a walk as they dish on Lord Merton. Isobel makes it clear that she doesn't want him to pursue her and same goes for any other lords. Violet seems to disapprove since she tells her that Merton wants Isobel to help him in his courtship.

Isobel is pretty hesitant about this, but Violet says that she doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to. Isobel doesn't have anything against this guy, it's just that she feels like he wants something from her that she cannot give. Violet gives the impression that he's looking for something a little scandalous since she says that it's what "all men want." Isobel thinks she knows what was being referred, but Violet says that she was talking about "companionship."

Meanwhile, Thomas runs into Jimmy in the hallway when he notices that Jimmy is holding a letter from Lady Anstruther. Odds are likely there's something skeptical going on between them since Jimmy refers to himself as "irresistible."

The two continue to chatter about the woman and how she wasn't like this before when they need to stop and go back to work since Mr. Carson walked in. Jimmy and Thomas stand like soldiers and go back to their business with insight that their conversation won't end from here.

Downton Abbey Season 5 premieres in the United States on Sunday, January 4 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
