It looks like there will be two women playing Freya this season on The CW's The Originals.

Hayley Struggling With Elijah On 'The Originals'

On Wednesday The Originals fan site revealed that the actress who portrayed Freya during the midseason premiere is not the actress who will be staying with the role for the remainder of the season.

Apparently long-time The Vampire Diaries and The Originals extra Hannah-Bliss Carlton stepped in to play the ghost version of the long lost Mikaelson who first contacts Rebekah (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) during the midseason premiere.

When Freya makes her formal return, however, actress Riley Voelkel will be taking over the role.

The blonde beauty certainly shares the original Rebekah's (Claire Holt) golden locks, and might be familiar to some viewers from other programs. The actress has previously appeared on American Horror Story (FX), Glee (Fox), and The Newsroom (HBO). She even starred in the made-for-TV movie Point of Honor alongside Nathan Parsons, who plays werewolf Jackson on The Originals.

Producers have not given a formal explanation as to why they are swapping actresses, though fans believe that Carlton stepped in when Voelkel was unavailable for production. Since Carlton's hair primarily covered her face during the midseason premiere, it's unlikely fans will notice much of a difference when Voelkel steps in.

Whether or not the Mikaelsons recognize Freya as their sister, however, will be another matter entirely.

The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
