Despite her run as the assistant warden coming to an end at the end of season 2, Fig (Alysia Reiner) is apparently returning for season 3 of Orange Is the New Black.

Fig essentially left the Litchfield prison with her tail between her legs after Caputo (Nick Sandow) found out about her embezzlement in the season 2 finale. With Caputo now in charge and Fig away from the prison, it would seem like this would be the end of her character.

However, Reiner recently did an interview with Decider suggesting that she will actually be returning as Fig in season 3 this summer. Back when they were about the film the final episodes of season 2, Reiner said that Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan wrote her a letter, explaining that this was the end of this storyline.

"[Jenji] said, 'We love you and we love what you're doing with [Fig], but this is just the way the character has written herself. This is where her arc has gone,'" Reiner recalled.

However, she was apparently asked to come back for season 3. Will she actually go to prison this time around? Reiner would not say for sure, but she did tease that the series would continue to be full of surprises in season 3.

"The amazing thing with the Orange Is the New Black writers is that you never know where they're going," she explained. "I don't think I've ever read an episode ever where I wasn't deeply surprised by something. You'll be equally as surprised as I was when I read it."

Orange Is the New Black is expected to begin streaming season 3 in mid-2015 on Netflix, though the streaming site has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
