Columbia's Paulina Vega earned the title of Miss Universe during the Sunday night pageant.

The Latin beauty won the honor over 87 of the world's most confidant women. As the new 2014 Miss Universe, Vega took over the crown from last year's winner, Venezuela's Gabriela Isler.

The 88 contestants were narrowed to 15 on Wednesday. During Sunday's main event in Doral, Fla., the international contingency was carefully trimmed down until only five hopefuls were left on the stage - Nia Sanchez of the USA, Yasmin Verheijen of the Netherlands, Diana Harkusha of the Ukraine, Kaci Fennell of Jamacia, and Vega.

 before the final round of competition, outlining her reasons for entering the pageant.

"Every girl has different reasons why they are participating, but my reason, it's because it will be a dream come true to represent the woman of today," Vega explained. "A woman that not only care about being beautiful and being glamorous, but also cares about being a professional, intelligent, hard-working person."
