In a recent interview, Jurassic Park sound designer Gary Rydstrom spoke about how the bark of the raptors is actually the sound that marine tortoises make while mating.

Rydstrom made this revelation speaking to SF Gate. He particularly referenced the famous scene in which the children are stuck with the raptors in the kitchen. 

"The bark that (the velociraptor) makes. When it comes in the kitchen and it barks. "Arp! Arp!" That's the sound of a tortoise that is mating," Rydstrom said.

The sound designer went on to explain how they managed to capture the sound, suggesting that it took a lot of patience.

"A long time. We've done a lot of recording at Marine World, which you can imagine. We recorded a lot of animals there. Like all things, I didn't know what kinds of sounds tortoises made, but they promised the sound would be interesting," he said. "We had to wait a long time. The male tortoise would go up, and then fall off, and then go back again. My memory is it was hours. It was probably minutes. But then the mating happened, and it barked."

Fans will definitely get to hear a lot more of those tortoise mating sounds as there are plenty raptors in Jurassic World, but they are likely to be friendlier as has been seen in the trailers where Chris Pratt's character, Owen, is seen riding his bike with them in tow.

Jurassic World stars Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Irrfan Khan, and Ty Simpkins.

The Jurassic Park films are based on Michael Crichton's series of novels about pre-historic beasts being revived by revolutionary gene technology. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are co-producing the film alongside Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two installments in the franchise. Irrfan Khan and Ty Simpkins also star in the movie.

The film will hit theaters on June 12, 2015.
