Edith is going to have a difficult time dealing with the fact that her daughter doesn't belong to her anymore when Downton Abbey returns.

Are Anna & Mr. Bates Going To Jail On 'Downton Abbey?'

In an uncomfortable sneak peek posted on Monday, Edith and her aunt Rosamund go on a visit to see little Marigold at the farm so she can meet one of her relatives. As Mrs. Drewe is hanging up clothes, the two women come by as Drewe seems a little hesitant about having Edith there. Even though it's all for good intentions, it's pretty obvious that Drewe wants to get the introduction over with since she's the one who's been taking care of Marigold.

Edith's aunt goes to see Marigold who's in her rocking horse. She says that the little girl is "very sweet."

Mr. Drewe then comes out of the house to see the women standing there where he introduces himself to Rosamund. Both of the Drewes look nervous and awkward that one of Marigold's actual relatives would come by so they try to keep it short. Mrs. Drewe says she has to go make dinner so the others think it's best to take off. Rosamund says good-bye to Marigold and tells her to remember her "friend."

The child lets out some tears, which could be a sign that her family is leaving her. Mrs. Drewe decides to take her inside when Edith offers her help. But Drewe makes it clear that she can do it, herself, leaving Edith to walk away with her heart slowly breaking.

The scene can be watched below.

Downton Abbey airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
