With a massive fan base and its own festival, Longmire might be on its way to becoming a cult classic.

Walt Facing His Own Mortality On 'Longmire'?

While cult status is typically reserved for quirky comedies, conspiratorial dramas, and sci-fi/fantasy phenomenons, the A&E-turned-Netflix crime drama certainly has a shot at the title.

Much like Arrested Development's revival on Netflix, Longmire was revived after overwhelming support poured in followed the show's 2014 cancellation on A&E. Through social media and petitions cast, crew, and fans banded together to promote the axed program while producers searched for a new network.

Walt Walking A 'Lonely' Road On 'Longmire' This Season?

The relationship between Longmire and its fans is a unique one. There is a mutual respect that exists between the two, as is evident by the annual Longmire Days gathering in Buffalo, WY. On Jan. 21 K2 Radio announced that the festival, which has taken place every summer since the show began, will return in July from the 17th to the 19th. This festival allows an opportunity for the show's cast, including Robert Taylor (Walt Longmire) and Adam Bartley (The Ferg), and its devoted fans to get together for a weekend of softball, autographs and even street dancing.

While this sort of communal experience is perhaps more common in the sci-fi convention realm, it's hardly an every day occurrence for the standard drama.

So is Longmire approaching cult status? Has it already arrived? Time will tell.

The writers have already reconvened to pen the new episodes. Production is set to begin in March.

Longmire will likely return for its fourth season on Netflix during the later half of 2015.
