The staged reading of Lou Diamond Phillips' play this week turned out to be a bigger Longmire reunion than some fans might have thought.

How 'Longmire' Is Becoming A Cult Classic

All month long the actor, who plays Henry on the popular crime drama, has been eagerly planning the staged reading of his play Burning Desire, which debuted at The St. Malachy Actor's Chapel in New York City on Thursday.

Not only was the play penned by Phillips, he also starred in the show alongside his Longmire co-star Cassidy Freeman (Cady).

As it turns out, the pair got an old friend to come and see the show. Author Craig Johnson, who wrote the Longmire novels on which the show is based, showed up in his signature cowboy hat to support his friends.

Phillips and Johnson have formed a pretty close friendship since the series was first developed for A&E. They've helped each other out with events and Phillips even wrote the introduction to Johnson's latest novel. The three were all smiles as they posed for photos outside the theatre.

With writers already developing the new season of Longmire, production is set to begin in March.

Longmire will likely return for a fourth season Netflix during the later half of 2015.
