A new report has stirred up an old rumor about Transformers 5, and the possibility of a crossover with G.I. Joe.

What Spurred Michael Bay To Quit The Transformers Series?

Ecumenical News speculates that the movie would be merging with G.I. Joe with Mark Wahlberg playing the lead role.

Last year, Cinema Blend revealed that this could be a possibility and tempted with the idea of Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) and Bruce Willis joining Optimus Prime and his crew.

Transformers: Age of Extinction Being Sued For Breaking Contractual Obligations?

This rumor had been taken up with the producer of movie, Lorenzo di Bonaventura. In an interview with Total Film earlier this year, said that there was potential in that concept. But Bonaventura went on to speak of how it was not a realistic proposition, at least not in the near future.

"I don't think [it's] in the near future at all," he explained. "It's not something we talk about either. There's a lot more story to be told in both cases. And I think if at some moment we think, 'You know what? It's time to bring the two of them together,'we'll do that. But I think they're strong enough to exist on their own."

The state of the fifth instalment in the franchise is in limbo as director Michael Bay has reportedly withdrawn from the sequel to Age of Extinction and there is no confirmation from the cast, Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, and Jack Reynor.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
