Stephanie has bigger things happening than dealing with her ex Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Dr. April Kepner's (Sarah Drew) baby drama.

Stephanie will be involved with "other medical concerns" at the hospital.

"Stephanie gets to be a part of something groundbreaking with someone you haven't seen her in too many scenes with before," Hinton said.

"Stephanie's journey in the back half of the season, as it stands right now, I'm excited for it. It's been a while since I've been this excited because playing the jilted lover, that was something, but now I get to sink my teeth into something," Hinton gushed, adding, "And I love when I get to do research, and the things that Stephanie is involved with now...somehow or another Grey Sloan is always the place with groundbreaking medical discoveries. I don't know how that's case but it is!"

Stephanie has been part of other huge medical developments before, including Dr. Meredith Grey's (Ellen Pompeo) 3D printing lab and Dr. Miranda Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) genome project.

"She wants the new thing. She wants to break new ground," Hinton said of her character.

Grey's Anatomy airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
