"The New Normal" premiered today on NBC to mixed reviews from TV critics, amid strong criticism from conservative groups for decaying moral and values in families.

The show, created by Ryan Murphy ("American Horror Story," "Glee," and "Nip/Tuck,"), tells the story of a gay couple who wants to have a baby with the help of a surrogate mother. TV critics raved about the series' solid performances but others criticized it's script of being flat.

"What series creators Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler seem to be saying is there's no such thing as normal and perfect; we're all flawed, we come to our lives from different roads, and nobody should be judged by it. Sounds fine as a personal essay or mission statement, but put into the context of a comedy it comes out half-baked -- earnest but wanting to be skewering as well," Tim Goodman with the Hollywood Reporter wrote on his review.

"Much about the pilot felt flat or programmatic to me, but much was likable as well, especially the nonchalant tenderness between the male leads. And the cast is good," wrote TV critic Robert Lloyd for the Los Angeles Times.

"As befits a network half-hour, The New Normal is tighter in pacing and structure than Murphy's other fantasies - it's doubtful this sitcom is going to go too weird or as slack as, say, Nip/Tuck,the mid-season episodes of American Horror Story, and the most recent season of Glee did," Ken Tucker with Entertainment Weekly wrote on his review.

People on Facebook raved about the series on Tuesday, mostly showing support for gay couples.

"I'm glad we got a gay oriented show that can watch comfortably and spread the word that we are all human beings and deserve civil equality and respect. I recommend this show for all viewers. Don't miss out!!!," Facebook user Sean Rick D. Villariasa wrote on the social network.

"I swear I laughed for 30 straight minutes! They couldnt have cast this show better if they tried. Freakin hilarious :)" user Valerie Ashley wrote on Facebook.

"The New Normal" is facing a boycott from the conservative organization "One Million Moms," which claims the show "is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage."

"These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture," the organization said.

"Watch or don't watch, it's your choice, but if you do opt out, you'll be missing a fairly promising new show with a lot of humor, solid performances, a snappily written script and, yes, a lot to say about the evolving nature of families." TV critic David Wiegand wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle.

'The New Normal" Episode 1 Recap

Goldie (Georgia King), a Midwestern waitress and single mother of a 9-year-old girl, walks in on her husband with another woman. Goldie takes the car and takes off to California with her daughter Shania in tow.

Meanwhile, Bryan (Andrew Rannells) sees a baby while he's out shopping, he returns home to his partner David (Justin Bartha) with an announcement: he wants baby clothes, and a baby to wear them.

David and Bryan meet with a top-notch surrogacy company discussing the process of shopping for eggs and a surrogate and Bryan agrees to let David be the bio dad.

Later, the guys carry out a surrogate interview with Goldie. Goldie says having Shania is the most successful thing she's ever done. And she doesn't have any moral issues with doing it for two men.

Soon after, the gang arrives at the family planning center, ready to implant their donor egg. David goes into the room with Goldie for the process and has a miniature emotional breakdown about his doubts about being a father. But Goldie reassures David that he'll be an amazing dad.

Nana, Goldie's grandmother, tracks down Goldie and Shania, busts in just in the nick of time to stop the insemination process, forbidding Goldie from making what she considers to be a horrible mistake.

Nana makes quite the confession; she caught her husband cheating on her with a man. And she still stayed with that awful man for another 10 years. Despite Nana's story, Goldie stays strong and insists that she's going through with it. She needs to do this, to help this couple and to help herself.

Later, Goldie takes a pregnancy test at David and Bryan's home... is Goldie pregnant?!
