On Friday, Universal Studios confirmed the follow-up film to 2014's Neighbors would begin filming shortly, and hit screens on May 13, 2016.

"Universal is moving forward with a follow-up to its hugely successful comedy from last summer that will reunite all of the major principals including stars [Seth] Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne as well as director Nicholas Stoller," The Hollywood Reporter announced.

Neighbors was released on May 9, 2014, and starred Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Dave Franco. The film cost $18 million to make and grossed a reported $268 million.

While the first film focused on the life of Rogen and Byrne's characters, the second will include a female twist.

"It's a sorority causing the couple trouble this time," E! News explained of the film's premise, "and this young couple learned the hard way they're no match for college kids, so they enlist their former nemesis to help them take on the troublesome sisters."

The film, like the first, will be written by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O'Brien.

"Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver — who together produced The Interview — are producing Neighbors 2 through their Point Grey Pictures," The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. "Good Universe, which has collaborated on several films with Point Grey including Neighbors and This Is the End, is producing as well."
