The cast of The Mentalist can't imagine a better ending to Patrick Jane's story than a Jisbon wedding.

Simon Baker (Jane) would prefer a more traumatic ending for his tragic character, but series creator Bruno Heller believes that, after all the trail and tribulations, the new couple deserves a classic happy ending.

"Once the romance was born," Heller told Yahoo TV. "It seemed like it would be cheating the audience a little if we didn't take it to the consummation of that. The real, traditional happy ending."

Although the writers never planned on penning a romance between their two main characters, Robin Tunney's lovable portrayal of Lisbon made it impossible not to.

"Over the years, it became clear Teresa was the happy ending that Jane needed and wanted and should be striving towards," Heller said, according to Yahoo TV. "And that's very specific to the fact that that's what Robin brought to the character. She made him love her. Nothing more clever than that, really. TV is a very honest medium, so if you have a lovable person, eventually characters around are going to fall in love with that character - and that's what happened."

See the Jisbon wedding tonight as The Mentalist comes to an end with "Brown Shag Carpet" and "White Orchids" at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
