The 2015 Oscar for Best Lead Actor has officially been announced, and Eddie Redmayne has taken home the trophy.

After months of speculation and predictions, the Oscar for Best Lead Actor went to Redmayne for The Theory of Everything. The award was presented by last year's Best Actress winner, Cate Blanchett.

Before the ceremony, 29 Oscar pundits made their best prediction as to which actor would end up winning the Best Lead Actor trophy. Out of those 29 predictors, 21 had guessed that Redmayne would take home the gold while just seven had been predicting Keaton would take it.

It had been a two-way race leading up to the big Oscar ceremony, with Keaton and Redmayne considered the two frontrunners through much of the award season. Redmayne picked up many big awards before the Oscars, including the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama, the SAG Award for Best Actor and the BAFTA Award for Best Actor.

Keaton was right there with him, though, having won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy, the Critics' Choice Award for Best Actor and a whole slew of smaller critics awards.

Meanwhile, Cooper's movie American Sniper was the highest grossing Best Picture contender by far, and many thought that he could potentially sneak in and win.

Carell and Cumberbatch had received many nominations leading up to Sunday despite losing most of the awards to other men in this category.
