Call the Midwife is known for its heartbreaking scenes, but one character definitely has a good chance of bringing the audience to tears.

New Character Begins 'Quite Badly' On 'Call The Midwife'

On Sunday, Radio Times posted an interview with Una Stubbs who guest stars on the series as Gert. The actress describes her character as a "frail little old woman" who looks after her dying husband in bed.

"She puts him before absolutely everything," Stubbs said. "She's determined not to let him down. She's unaware at first, but she's not fit herself."

'Call The Midwife' Character Goes 'From One Extreme To The Other'

The actress made it pretty clear that her family probably won't be watching this episode. This is likely due to the fact that her kids wouldn't want to see her play a character like that.

"I don't think they will watch it," she said. "When I was describing to my youngest son what it's about he said, 'Mum, I don't think I'll watch that.' My sons would find it difficult to see me like that."

When Stubbs spoke to What's On TV about her moment on the series, she gave more specifics on how hard it's going to be for Gert to care for her husband when she can't take care of herself.

"It's very sad, she's looking after her husband, but she's not in a fit state herself and she won't let on," she explained. "She has always coped and suddenly she can't, but she won't give in. Even though she is frail, she is stoic and doesn't want to be a bother and I'm a bit like that myself."

Call the Midwife Season 4 is expected to return to the United States later this month on PBS.
