Netflix's Orange Is the New Black has reportedly received a hefty tax break to film in New York, and some are not too pleased about it.

'Orange Is the New Black' Has To Compete in Drama Series at Emmys Now?

New York has released some details and figures for certain TV shows that received tax breaks in 2014, and Orange Is the New Black outgrossed them all. The prison dramedy received $10 million in tax breaks for the final quarter of the year, out of a total $27 million for all shows and movies filming in the state.

The state offers $420 million in tax breaks for film/TV productions yearly, which is a nationwide high.

Netflix Announces June Premiere For 'Orange Is The New Black' Season 3

"The Film Production Tax Credit Program has made New York state the premier destination for the entertainment industry, which drives billions of dollars into our economy and creates hundreds of thousands of jobs for New Yorkers," Empire State Development rep Jason Conwall said.

Assemblyman Bil Nojay is not a fan of these tax figures, thinking they could be put to better, more urgent use.

"Our roads and bridges are crumbling, and yet we're subsidizing Hollywood millionaires to do television productions. It does not make any sense," Nojay said.

Meanwhile, Conklin Supervisor Jim Finch thought the figure was absurd.

"That's baloney," Finch said, upon hearing the figure. "They already make all the millions on the movies, and we get nothing back from the profits."

Orange Is the New Black is mostly filmed at the former Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, in Orangetown, Rockland County.

One supervisor who is seeing the benefit of the production being in town is Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart. The supervisor noted that the large production has been a benefit to the town for local vendors.

Orange Is the New Black returns for season 3 on June 12 on Netflix, with all 13 episodes likely being released at once.
