The writers and producers of ABC's hit show Scandal tackled a ripped from the headlines inspired case during last Thursday's new episode. Lawn Chair was inspired by the Michael Brown killing that occurred in Ferguson Mo.

Is 'Scandal's' New Episode Inspired By Trayvon Martin & Michael Brown Shootings?

Lawn Chair was centered on a man named Clarence Parker (Courtney B. Vance) who failed to cooperate with police after his unarmed black teen, Brandon, was shot dead by white police officer Jeffrey Newton.

His story was very similar to that of Michael Brown Jr., an unarmed black teen that was shot to death by a white officer named Darren Wilson.

Olivia Pope Forced To Handle New 'Scandal' D.C. Crisis After Being Held Captive

During the episode, Parker placed a lawn chair over his dead son's body as way to protest that black lives do matter and he refused to get up until detectives bring him the man who shot his son.

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), D.C.'s crisis manager and political fixer, and her team of Gladiators worked around the clock to find the truth about what happened.

Washington D.C. Police Chief explained that the police officer stopped Brandon after he matched the description of a suspected shoplifter. The officer said he tried to question the teen but he pulled a knife on the officer and Brandon was then shot.

Unlike the outcome in the deaths of Brown, Eric Garner and Trayvon Martin, justice was served after Liv learned that the teen was not pulling out a knife but rather showing the officer his receipt.

The knife found on the scene belonged to someone who was previously arrested and Officer Newton planted the weapon at the scene to match his story. Netwton was immediately arrested and Liv took Clarence to meet President Fitzgerald Grant III and the two men mourned the loss of their sons.

Scandal airs every Thursday night at 9 p.m. on ABC. Viewers can watch a sneak peek of next week's new episode in the video below.
