Norman's fate on A&E's Bates Motel just might be inescapable, but that doesn't mean fans should expect a predictable season.

Is The Infamous Mikael Back For Good On 'The Originals'?

"We all know the Psycho mythology, so well all know where it's heading," explained executive producer Kerry Ehrin during an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Sunday.

"The first two seasons were very much about creating the new world that was a part of the film that people didn't know and getting to know the tone of it, and the characters and the perversions of Norman starting to descend into this psychosis," continued Ehrin. "This is the meaty part of the mythology."

Things Heating Up Between Claire & Jamie On 'Outlander'?

Actress Vera Farmiga (Norma) agreed that fans will certainly see the "unravelling" of both characters this season.

Norman will also begin to come into his own as an adult on the series, if not necessarily as well-adjusted one. "Norman seeks to become her [his mother's] equal a bit more," explained Freddie Highmore (Norman). "He's named manager of the motel, and he starts to see her as an equal and perhaps hopes to fill that void of that man in her life."

Unfortunately for Norman and Norma, fans know that this dynamic won't end well. Viewers shouldn't, however, expect the series to cling too tightly to the source material.

"There's a lot of area to be covered that never gets covered in the movie…" explained Ehrin. "People should not expect that it's going to end in that same place."

Bates Motel will return on A&E for a third season Monday, March 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
