The cast and crew of Starz's Outlander warned fans this week that things are about to get pretty horrifying this season.

Find Out How Role Reversal Is Making 'Outlander' A Hit

"The last couple chapters of season one's story we're going to go to really dark and disturbing places," warned writer and producer Ronald D. Moore during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.

Even as the program delves into some pretty deep territory, Moore assured fans that there will be a natural progression to the way in which the story unfolds.

"You want it to have [a sense] of warning the audience and kind of giving a heads up, that it's not all sunny-ness and light here," he explained. "There are some things that are going to happen you're not going to like, but we have these other stories and so sort of go along with us on the ride."

While Moore has had concerns about how far viewers will be willing to go before those "disturbing" scenes become too much to handle, other elements of production have been surprisingly easy.

"It's been a happy experience," noted Moore in talking about having found great chemistry between stars Caitriona Balfe (Claire) and Sam Heughan (Jamie). "When we put Cait and Sam together for a chemistry test, we were surprised, and it worked…So it's just one of those aspects that was a pleasant surprise, and I can put it behind me and not have to worry about it again."

Outlander will return on Starz for the remainder of its first season on Saturday, April 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
