Chris Soules kept things conservative in ABC's Dancing With the Stars premiere, but fans should expect him to show a little skin in the weeks to come.

Soules and his pro dancing partner Witney Carson spoke with Access Hollywood this week, discussing why he did not go shirtless in Week 1.

"We gotta save those tricks for later," Carson teased. "We gotta do it at some point. We just gotta give America what they want."

Soules said that he "opted out last week," adding, "When she makes me take off my shirt, that's when I'll start doing the spray tan."

From the beginning, Dancing With the Stars has frequently featured male celebrities and pros taking their shirts off in order to make their performances more tantalizing.

Week 1 was not a complete success for Soules and Carson but it wasn't a total failure either. The pair received a 26 out of 40 from the judges, putting them square in the middle of the pack. While the pair obviously hoped for a better score, Carson said that she is not too concerned.

"We're not too worried about the scores, I think, at this point," she said. "We had really good comments for the first week. They said he has to work on a couple of things like his posture and his technique and stuff. They said he has potential."

It remains to be seen if Soules will become progressively better over the course of the season or if he will be cut short and eliminated early by America.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
