Angelina Jolie just wrote an op-ed entitled, Diary of a Surgery, to chronicle removal of her ovaries.

Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Are NOT Heading Toward Divorce

On Tuesday, the Internet practically broke when the star's op-ed for The New York Times went viral.

She previously wrote about her decision to have a preventative double masectomy and now was sharing her experience of deciding to have her ovaries removed as another preventative measure.

Did Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Go On A 'Make-Or-Break' Vacation To Save Their Marriage?

Diary of a Surgery covers everything from first finding out she had a gene for ovarian cancer to explaining how she lost three important women in her life to the disease.

"A simple blood test had revealed that I carried a mutation in the BRCA1 gene. It gave me an estimated 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. I lost my mother, grandmother and aunt to cancer," Jolie wrote.

And now she is speaking out and explaining her decision but not just for herself. She wants women to know the different options they have when they get a scary diagnosis like this.

"I wanted other women at risk to know about the options. I promised to follow up with any information that could be useful, including about my next preventive surgery, the removal of my ovaries and fallopian tubes," she wrote.

After exploring her feelings about not meeting her grandchildren and seeing her own children grow up, she decided to opt for the procedure, which would mean no more child-bearing for the filmmaker.

"I feel deeply for women for whom this moment comes very early in life, before they have had their children. Their situation is far harder than mine. I inquired and found out that there are options for women to remove their fallopian tubes but keep their ovaries, and so retain the ability to bear children and not go into menopause. I hope they can be aware of that," the actress wrote.
