Jennifer Lopez is one celebrity who doesn't take her career or success in life for granted. The singer and actress recently said that Latin pop star Selena was the inspiration behind her starting her own singing career, as she wanted to leave her chorus behind to become a solo pop artist.

In a new interview with Billboard magazine this week, Lopez helps celebrate Selena's music legacy this month, as 20 years ago the "Mexican Madonna" was murdered by the president of her own fan club.

Lopez said, "It made me realize... Life is short, and you don't know what's going to happen. Go for your dreams and don't let anyone hold you back."

Lopez kick-started her own career by playing Selena on the big screen back in 2007. She admits that Selena still manages to inspire her today by saying, "That's why we're still talking about her 20 years later. People like that don't come along every day. There is never going to be another Selena."

Meanwhile, Lopez recently said that she would love to work with another chart topping star in the industry, Rihanna.

She told E! News on Friday, "I'm a huge Rihanna fan...and I feel like she's such a girl's girl, which I love, because I'm a girl's girl and she seems very sweet. And I love the edginess about her and I think she did a really great job in this film."

Asked if she would like to record a duet with Rihanna, Lopez said, "Absolutely! Who wouldn't?"
