One of the most influential fiddlers, Johnny Gimble, has reportedly passed due to complications from several strokes he has suffered from.

On Saturday, The Tennessean reported that Gimble died in Dripping Springs, Texas at 88 years old.

Willie Nelson shared on Facebook his remorse for the loss of "one of the best fiddle players in the world."

"Our good friend and undoubtedly one of the best fiddle players in the world, Johnny Gimble, has passed away. Our hearts go out to his family at this difficult time," he wrote.

Gimble was born May 30th in 1929 and learned to play the fiddle as a young boy. He reportedly drew inspiration from a number of influences.

Over 60 years in music brought Gimble five Instrumentalist of the Year awards from the Country Music Association and Fiddler of the Year Awards from the Academy of Country Music.

Gimble suffered a stroke in 1999 but continued to make music into his 80s.

Nelson himself was reportedly passed last month, but it was found to only be a hoax.

The Internet went crazy when MSMBC.com reported that the country music star had died.

The article claimed that he was found dead in his Maui home and that police had confirmed this information.

The publication even went as far as to make up quotes about the incident:

"There was no evidence of drug abuse or alcohol and no signs of foul play," the article claimed Det. Aldeson said.
