VH1’s Love & Hip Hop New York star Yandy Smith has clapped back after her former co-star Erica Mena insisted that she received preferential treatment on the show.

Erica Mena Shades Yandy Smith’s ‘Joke’ TV Wedding, Yandy Responds

Smith went on HOT 97’s Ebro In The Morning radio show earlier this week and responded to Mena’s claims that she made on the same radio station recently.

Mena said that Smith was never made to look bad on the show because she is close with the creator and executive producer Mona Scott-Young. Meanwhile, Mena said she believes the show portrayed her in a bad light consistently.

Smith, who just tied the knot with Mendeecees Harris on a live ceremony May 25, revealed her side of it all. She began by admitting she did take part in “the production side of ‘Love & Hip Hop.’ But everything changed when she stepped from behind the camera to in front of it.

“When I decided to be a cast member, I relinquished all rights on a production side. But I don’t get preferential treatment. I just choose not to act a monkey. If I acted a monkey, best believe Mona Scott-Young would put me up there acting a monkey; and would be like ‘Yand, you acted a monkey, but that got us some money.’”

Smith’s comments come just weeks after Mena told HOT 97 radio personality Nessa that Smith is treated differently.

“The only person I feel like [producers] respected throughout the whole cast and the livelihood and give consideration to is Yandy. And that’s why Yandy is looked at as this flawless person. But I think she worse than all of us in a sense that no one’s perfect. And yet her story lines always are no matter how bad life is…I think it’s all about who you know.”
