Jordin Sparks first gained national attention as a contestant on the sixth season of American Idol. The then 17-year-old eventually won, becoming the youngest champ in the televised signing competition’s history. Soon after her big win she released her platinum-selling debut album, which spawned such hits as “Tattoo”, “No Air” (With Chris Brown), and “One Step at a Time”. A second album, Battlefield, followed in 2009, along with a series of high profile performances, including singing at the President Obama’s first inaugural ball and belting out the national anthem at the Super Bowl. For much of the early 2010s, Sparks focused mainly on acting--making both her film & Broadway debuts—and only releasing the occasional single. Oh, and there was that very public relationship and breakup with “Talk Dirty” singer Jason Derulo. Last fall she dropped her mixtape #ByeFelicia, catching the attention of fans and non-fans alike.

Enstars recently got the chance to catch up with Sparks just ahead of the release of her forthcoming album, Right Here, Right Now, to talk about her career, her campaign with Excedrin for migraine awareness, her tattoos, her love of the 90s (including a surprising obsession with Pokémon and admiration for 90s R&B) and more.

Enjoy!
