Paula Broadwell's father Paul Kranz, said the scandal involving his daughter and former CIA director David Petraues is bigger than an extramarital affair and some harassing emails.

Petraues stepped down from his position on Friday after his affair with Broadwell was discovered following a separate FBI investigation of Broadwell's emails. She was reportedly sending harassing messages to Jill Kelley, a friend of Petraues.'

Kranz was hesitant about giving away details but he did tell reporters that the scandal is focused on the wrong thing entirely.

"This is about something else entirely, and the truth will come out," the retired high school basketball coach told the New York Daily News. "There is a lot more that is going to come out...You wait and see. There's a lot more here than meets the eye."

Kranz, who lives in Bismark, N.D., also added, "I stand by my daughter. She is an exceptional person."

Broadwell lives in North Carolina with her husband Dr. Scott Broadwell and their two children. Broadwell and her husband were on vacation celebrating her 40th birthday when news broke on Friday of the affair and Petraues' decision to resign as CIA director. The couple were enjoying a two-day break at the Middleton Inn in Little Washington, Va., when news of the scandal broke, according to the Daily Mail.

They arrived at the inn on Thursday. Sources added that Scott had arranged a romantic evening on Friday including a bouquet of flowers and champagne to celebrate Paula's birthday, but by the time they returned from dinner on Friday evening, they were described by onlookers as "not being in very good moods."

They left on Saturday morning and a party that had been planned on Saturday night for Paula's birthday was canceled.
