The end of Downton Abbey is almost here and one of the executive producers opened up on what it's going to be like when everyone experiences their final days on set.

Which 'Downton Abbey' Actress Is 'Not Upset' About The Series Ending?

On Friday, GoldDerby posted an interview with producer Gareth Neame who mentioned that the cast and crew members are slowly beginning to feel the end coming and it'll be pretty emotional when it becomes official.

"I think it's only beginning to dawn on people that the end is nigh," Neame said. "It's not going to sink in until we shoot each other's final scene or we shoot the last scene at Highclere Castle. As we applaud off each character on their last scene will be quite moving."

Is Maggie Smith Leaving 'Downton Abbey' Or Not?

Whatever happens as far as storyline, the producer is keeping those details a secret since he doesn't want to spoil what can only be a spectacular gift.

"If you said to your children on the first day of December, 'Would you like to open your presents now?' the kids would all say, 'Yes, please.' Half an hour later they would all be crying because they would have spoiled things."

However though, Neame did reveal one of his favorite storylines thus far, which involved Lady Edith achieving a powerful arc throughout the years.

"This was the ugly duckling from season one and the also-ran of the three sisters," Neame said. "By season five, this is a woman on fire who is becoming a professional woman. Talk about learning from the school of hard knocks. Everything has gone wrong for this woman and yet she keeps plowing in."

Downton Abbey Season 6 is expected to premiere in the United States in early 2016 on PBS.
