When it comes to Michael Douglas, you might not want to believe everything you read in the tabloids and gossip blogs. The Hollywood actor has dismissed rumors that he is a sex addict or that he was treated for a sex addiction nearly two decades ago.

Michael Douglas Admits To Loving His Wife More Now Than Ever

According to Britain's Event magazine (via the London Press) on Monday, Douglas says that while he has made racy films in the past - such as the erotic thriller Basic Instinct - he hasn't had any problems in his sex life.

He said, "Let me explain how that whole sex addiction thing happened. I had an alcohol issue - I'd just lost my stepfather and it was a good rehab session it certainly helped me find out a couple of things. Basic Instinct had just come out and I don't remember who the clever editor was in London, but they came up with sex addiction. It became a new disease."

He added, "No one had heard of that up until then, but it's stuck with me ever since. And it still pops up now an again... My father is actually rather proud of it... Dad's a very funny guy."

What's more, Douglas also added that he regrets telling the press that he might have gotten throat cancer from oral sex, as it ultimately caused a lot of embarrassment for his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

He said, "It was one of those things...and I so regretted any embarrassment that it caused Catherine. And her family."

The couple temporarily split up back in 2013 before getting back together again and working on their marriage. While Douglas was dealing with his cancer scare, Zeta-Jones was diagnosed as being bi-polar.
