One detective has already been gunned down in the pursuit of whoever was responsible for the brutal death of city planner Ben Caspere, and another could find herself treading a dangerous path on True Detective.

Is Velcoro Really Dead?

Following Velcoro's (Colin Farrell) shooting, Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams) is taking charge of the investigation--and her tactics and targets could land her into some big trouble with the wrong people.

In a preview clip for the Sunday, July 5 episode, Bezzerides appears to believe that Mayor Chessani (Ritchie Coster) and his family are somehow involved in the overlying crime, and as a result, she and Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch) will head to the family's home to do some questioning.

Everything We Learned In The 'True Detective' Season Premiere

"Are you Betty Chessani? We're State Police m'am," Bezzerides says in the clip as she walks into the mansion.

However, her actions appear to greatly anger the Vinci Mayor--and she could soon be a new target for whoever is responsible for both the murder and Velcoro's shooting.

"Detective comes into my house, harrasses my wife? My children?" he shouts in the clip. "Bezzerides is walking the plank!"

Meanwhile, things could get dangerous for Woodrugh as well, after he seems to accidentally run into Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn), who could seek him out for information on the crime now that Velcoro is out of commission temporarily.

True Detective airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
