Sarah Paulson was shocked about her recent Emmy nomination, despite being nominated the past three years!

Finn Wittrock's New 'American Horror Story' Character Is 'Not A Good Guy' But Different From Dandy

Paulson received an Emmy nomination on Thursday for playing conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler in FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show. She is nominated in the Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie category, where co-stars Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates also received nominations.

Paulson spoke with TheWrap after the nominations announcement, revealing that she didn't expect to get the nom.

'American Horror Story: 'Freak Show' Earns Emmy Nominations For Pretty Much Everyone

"I did not think I was going to get it. These kind of things are always very nerve-racking," Paulson admitted. "It sounds super silly, but I really wanted the nomination for the character I played. I just thought Bette and Dot, I just thought it would be so wonderful if they got nominated."

The actress was previously nominated for other seasons of American Horror Story. She was nominated for playing Cordelia Foxx in American Horror Story: Coven last year and Lana Winters in American Horror Story: Asylum the year before. And the year before she was nominated for playing Nicolle Wallace in the TV movie Game Change. She has never won.

Paulson admitted that she "never [has] confidence that those things are going to happen because I'm still too much of a little kid who dreamt of being an actress. And having these things happen would be something I would fantasize about, so the fact that it's happening is a bit surreal."

According to awards prognosticators Gold Derby, Paulson is the frontrunner to win her category this year. Her fellow nominees aside from Bassett and Bates include Zoe Kazan from HBO's Olive Kitteridge, Regina King from ABC's American Crime and Mo'Nique from HBO's Bessie.

The Primetime Emmys will take place Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

Meanwhile, the new season, American Horror Story: Hotel, premieres in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
