The Iraqi airforce has claimed to have attacked ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's convoy, therefore stating that al-Baghdadi was dead.

The Independent sourced the official word from the Iraqi miltary. While al-Baghdadi's whereabouts are unknown and there is no way to confirm that he died in the attacks, sources from the ground revealed that eight senior members of the Islamic state were dead.

Here's the official statement made by the Iraqi airforce:

"Iraqi air forces have bombed the convoy of the terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi while he was heading to Karabla to attend a meeting with Daesh commanders."

The statement went on to reveal that the state of al-Baghdadi's condition was "unknown" and that he was spotted being taken away by a vehicle: "He was carried away by a vehicle. His health condition is still unclear."

These claims were dismissed as "rumors" by a Twitter page which acts as a forum for ISIS, and official statements from the Islamic State.

A similar claim was made earlier this year in April, when it was suggested thet al-Baghdadi had been taken down in an airstrike, But al-Baghdadi was then heard communicating via an official audio platform, in May, when he reached out to Muslims across the world urging them to take up arms for the cause of the ISIS.
