If you've been wondering why the former teacher will go all John McEnroe on an unsuspecting Aria (Lucy Hale) as season 5B begins, the "Five Years Forward" special may have provided some valuable insight.

"Ezra has had an eventful five years," Ian Harding (Ezra) explained, according to TV Line. During his time away from Rosewood, Ezra saw his relationship with Nicole collapse in "violent" fashion. "Most people, hopefully, don't experience what he has."

It's unclear exactly what trauma Mr. Fitz will go through, but he certainly won't deal with it in the healthiest of ways. Liquid dinners will be on the menu.

"He is completely rudderless," Harding said. "He has no sense of who he is and what he's supposed to do with his life. He falls down a really deep well - into a sea of alcohol, if we continue this metaphor."
