Those in Alan Thicke's family continue to mourn the sitcom legend's death, and now son Robin Thicke is stepping up as a support system.

Like the rest of his family, Robin has been grieving over the death of his father, which occurred Tuesday after he and son, Carter, were playing hockey. Robin has now become a rock for the whole Thicke family in the days following Alan's death, according to a source.

"He's been a rock for the family," a source told People this week. "Carter is obviously still very dazed and so is their other brother [Brennan]. Robin is the one taking the lead and organizing everything with Alan's wife Tanya [Callau]."

The family is also planning a private memorial service scheduled for next week, while Robin is now taking on a new campaign to get funding for childhood juvenile diabetes research, a cause that was near and dear to Alan's heart.

"He's been spearheading all of this and remained strong and is keeping the focus to help the family plow through this," the source said.

Robin told The Los Angeles Times shortly after his father's death that he was "the greatest man I ever met," adding that he was "always a gentleman." Luckily, the 39-year-old singer got to tell his father he loved him just a few days earlier. "I saw him a few days ago and told him how much I loved and respected him."

Carter had his own touching message for his late father on Instagram:

Alan was 69.
