The untitled Transformers 4 will officially begin filming this week in downtown Detroit, Mich., according to new reports.

Construction on Washington Blvd has been going on for a couple weeks but after viewing movie signs for the film, On Location Vacations reported that filming will take place from July 31 to Aug. 10. Pictures posted on the website show a Chinese city that has been partially demolished with a "spaceship"-looking structure found in the middle.

The signs noted that filming will include "simulated gunfire, controlled pyrotechnic explosions, precision driving potentially involving squealint tires, controlled vehicle crashes and smoke."

It seems like there will be a lot of explosions occurring in the fourth sequel, being that there were already "major explosions" on two historic Boblo Boats in Detroit: the S.S. Columbia and the S.S. Ste. Clair.

The sequal, according to the film's press release, picks up four years after the Chicago battle and with a whole new storyline. "Humanity picks up the pieces" and "Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet," the release read.  There will be "an ancient, powerful transformer menace" who will bring more drama to the plot. Boss' Kelsey Grammer is set to play the human villain.

According to the release, the movie that will be "darker than its predecessors."

The film has a new cast lined up. Instead of Shia LaBeouf playing Sam Witwicky, Mark Wahlberg will play Flynn Vincent, the new lead character of the film. Wahlberg previously worked with Transformers director Michael Bay on Pain & Gain. He  will be joining forces with Irish actor Jack Reynor. Stanley Tucci and Nicola Peltz. Chinese entertainers Han Geng and Li Bingbing have recently signed on as well.

"Just the wrong time to come at me for it. Maybe if I'm 40, I got a kid and my kid wants to be a fashion designer and I don't have the bread for it, then let's have the conversation," LaBeouf said about not returning for the franchise's fourth film. "I'm at the point now where that's just not important for me."

Even though Sam Witwicky and his girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox) won't be returning, the director talked about new changes that will still make people want to see the movie.

"We've redesigned [the transformers]...there's some really cool sh*t in it. I'm literally redesigning every character, top to bottom...[it's] to keep it new and fresh to me," Bay told Moviefone. "I think the fans will appreciate some of this new stuff we have in the movie and some of the new characters."

One of the featured redesigns is transformer Bumblebee. Instead of taking the vintage form of a 1967 Camaro, Bumblebee will transform into the updated shiny yellow 2014 Concept Camaro.

After filming in Detroit the cast is expected to be filming in Chicago, Hong Kong and China. The sequel to Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide, will be released June 27, 2014.
