Motorola's Droid RAZR MAXX is now the highest selling phone on Verizon, outselling the iPhone 4S. For the first time in five years, the Droid RAZR which runs on 4G LTE has trumped Apple's smartphone on Verizon. According to William Blair financial analyst Anil Doradla, the RAZR MAXX is now the top selling smartphone as of the June quarter of this year. "Since Apple's iPhone launch in North America, we believe this was the first quarter where the iPhone was not the best‐selling smartphone at a North American mobile operator," he said.

However, the iPhone is still the highest seller on all other major U.S. Carriers. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus came in as the third highest seller on the network. Although the Galaxy Nexus was the first phone to launch with the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, users still opted to choose the Droid RAZR MAXX, which comes with a huge battery, offering up to 21 hours of talk time. The ICS update for the Droid RAZR is expected soon.

CNET had originally reported that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Droid RAZR would be on June 12 but users have not seen an update yet.

Motorola released a timetable that promises the Droid Razr to receive an update in Q2 and it appears it will keep that promise with the latest release date news.
