Jerry Jones is lucky to be alive after an almost near-death vehicular accident.

In May, Jones got involved in an accident that left him with minor injuries. Details about the crash were not publicized not until this month.

In a video shared by a news outlet (via The New York Post), it can be heard that he told the officers he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Instead, he buckled it up behind him.

The Cowboys owner added that he drove around 45 miles per hour before the airbags of his 2013 Lexus deployed. Although airbags are made to save lives, his situation made it more possible for him to sustain serious injuries.

Fortunately, he only had a "head bump, chest bump [and] knee bump" but did not sustain lingering effects after the incident.

Jones added that the driver of the Hyundai vehicle U-turned in front of him, causing him to hit the broadside. The other driver was not hurt in any way.

Some modern vehicles will not deploy airbags if the seatbelt is not worn. Jones, on the other hand, scored his luck that time.

What Happened to Jerry Jones?

The vehicular accident happened in May. In a statement to PEOPLE, the Dallas Police Department revealed that it received a call regarding a crash in Texas City.

At that time, they disclosed that a vehicle did not yield, causing the crash to another vehicle. They did not reveal, however, the identity of one of the drivers. But USA Today released a separate report confirming that Jones was involved in it.

Meanwhile, a source informed Yahoo! Sports that the 79-year-old was okay, resonating with what his son and the Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones divulged during his appearance on the Dallas Morning News.

ESPN said that Jones was rushed to a hospital where he stayed for a brief period. Although he sustained minor injuries, his hospital visit only served as a precautionary measure.

Before the crash, Jones disclosed that he had been suffering a minor medical issue. This led him to skip the usual session in the league, failing to open his luxurious bus to welcome reporters just like he usually does.

Aside from his health issues, he also dealt with the league-related problem as four cheerleaders accused a senior executive in the Cowboys of voyeurism.
