Nick Gordon’s plea to Bobby Brown wasn’t enough for Brown to let Gordon into his daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown’s funeral this past weekend.

Gordon’s mother, Michelle Brown, revealed to People early Tuesday how her son remembered Bobbi Kristina instead.

“Nick went to the beach with me on Friday during the services. He said the beach was always their favorite place to go so he decided that he would honor her at a place that they both loved.”

Gordon had sent an email to both Bobby and Bobbi Kristina’s aunt Pat Houston pleading for their “blessing” to attend the funeral.

But with him up against a $40 million lawsuit from Bobbi Kristina’s conservators for allegedly stealing her money and abusing her, the chances of him getting the okay to attend were slim to none.

Bobbi Kristina died on July 26 after being found unconscious in her bathtub on Jan. 31. She was 22-years-old. Gordon is said to be a person of interest in the case. He was also banned from visiting her in the hospital.

One of their neighbors who lived near Bobbi Kristina and Gordon’s Roswell, Ga. home spoke out and explained how their relationship was perceived. She recalls inviting the young couple to her wedding.

“The day of the wedding, they got there early…I am getting dressed and ready to go, and she comes in the room and looks at me and says, ‘Oh no, no, no— I got to redo your makeup. I said’ Krissi, I have to be ready in 30 minuts.' She starts working and talking away…She did a beautiful job…She kept saying, ‘I did my mom’s makeup’, and I thought: ‘You know what, if she was good enough for Whitney, then she is doing my makeup.’”
